The Savage Land is a large tropical island populated mostly by dinosaurs. It is located off the coast of Costa Rica.
History
Origin
The Savage Land originally broke away from North America and was carried into isolation due to the splitting of the continents during the Mesozoic era. The dinosaur population took refuge beneath the island millions of years ago, even before the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event. The island was sealed from the rest of the world by storm-lashed reefs surrounding the island. During the Ice Ages, a land bridge formed that allowed a vast menagerie of large mammals to cross over and colonize the island, mainly the colder uplands, which were inhospitable to most dinosaurs.
