Quentin had a seemingly normal childhood. He was the oldest of the three Beck brothers, but his younger brothers thought he was a jerk to them, but he thought they were annoying little pests. In school, Quentin was a part of the school newspaper and only hung out with the other reporters. However, eh also enjoyed being in the school plays, but he preferred being minor characters, so he wouldn't have the spotlight.
Unlike many of his friends, Quentin never grew out of his journalism hobby. He loved getting the inside scoops on everyone in the school, which earned him a lot of wedgies and swirlies. However, he never gave up. He even implied for an internship at the Daily Bugle, but he did not get it, which caused him to temporarily give up journalism, but he soon returned to it, knowing he could not stay away.
After graduating High School, Quentin still held a grudge against the Daily Bugle. he applied for a job at the Daily Globe, which he got. For weeks, the Bugle kept getting the good stories, and Beck was threatened to get a good story, or he'd be fired. So, he created a fake story about a new serial killer calling himself the "Mysterio". However, his fake story was taken very seriously, and it got the police, as well as Spider-Man, and even the Masked Man's gang involved.
Eventually, Spider-Man discovered the whole thing was a hoax created by Beck, but when he told the publisher of the Daily Globe, he refused to believe Spidey, but for unknown reasons, he fired Beck. When Spider-Man told the police, they believed him and attempted to arrest Beck, but he faked his own death, even going so far as to kill his younger brother and use it as his own body.
Quentin went into hiding, and continuously prayed for his life to go back to normal. However, he got the opposite of what he asked for. He encountered a sorcerer from another dimension, calling himself Maelafic Mynsteraye. Quentin decided to call him Mysterio instead, and Mysterio cast a spell to bond them, turning Beck into his human tether. The two began sharing desires, so Mysterio became a criminal, and he began stealing pieces of equipment from Oscorp.
