- Our reality, and all the realities parallel to it, were created by the Beyonders, beings from beyond the Multiverse, who sought to experiment in the creation of life. They tired of that, and so they began to experiment in other ways. Mass extinctions, universal cataclysm, like children playing with their toys. But there's only so much life you can create and death you can cause before you tire of it. So they turned to new ways to entertain themselves. With the click of their fingers, they created superbeings across the Multiverse and began to watch heroes battle villains, worlds burn at the hands of titans, entire societies of superbeings form, they had brought chaos.
But again, as children do, they tired of that. They wanted more complexity. Heroes who became villains, cliché. Villains who become heroes, the most overused TV trope there is. They needed a figure who is both hero and villain, good and evil, God and Satan. How is that possible, you ask? They find a man who exists in every universe they created, who has so many mental instabilities his humanity is brought into question, and they give him ultimate power. But what's worse? They give him brief moments of clarity, where everything is fine in his head, and he sees his place in the universe.
I am Owen Reece. I am a Multiversal constant. I vary, but I am the same. I am an unstable man who controls the very stability of the universe. There is no way to kill me, they made sure of that. To try is meaningless. To leave me unchecked is foolish. So what do you do with a man who can rarely control himself? You leave him be, and hope when he finally loses the last of his sanity you can talk him out of destroying everything.
