Mephisto was created in the depths of Hell by the first devil, Lucifer, who was dying. He needed a replacement so he claimed Mephisto was his son, therefore, his heir. After Lucifer faded into nothingness, Mephisto took his rightful place as Ruler of Hell. Throughout the centuries, Mephisto made himself known as the Devil, rotating between the Astral Plain and his own realm.
After a century of boredom, Mephisto wanted to create his own heir, should he ever fade. He created Blackheart out of darkness. At first, Mephisto was proud of his work, but Blackheart despised his "father" and his own existence. He left Hell in an attempt to give himself meaning and sever any connections to the Devil.
The Ghost Rider
Mephisto temporarily left Hell in an attempt to stop Blackheart. He discovered he was not as powerful in the Astral Plain, so he decided to create something capable of defeating Blackheart. Mephisto created a spirit called the Ghost Rider, but it was destroyed by Blackheart. He managed to shroud himself with darkness, which caused Mephisto to become unable of tracking him.
When a young boy named Danny Ketch began praying to Mephisto, he became friends with the child. He began assisting him in his life, causing bad things to happen to his enemies. Over the years, Mephisto eventually got Danny arrested, but he continued to help him. After Danny stopped praying, he ceased assisting. When Danny was being beaten up by other prisoners, he gave Mephisto one last prayer, and he got a great idea. He transformed Danny into the Ghost Rider in an attempt to find Blackheart.
