- All of this disaster could have been averted, old man. All you had to do was just leave me in Jotunheim to die when I was an infant. This is your own doing.
Loki was the son of King Laufey of the Frost Giants, but he was abandoned by his mother in a temple when the Frost Giants went off to battle against the Asgardians. Laufey never knew of his sons existence, and wouldn't have cared for him if he did. After the war was over, Odin, the King of the Asgardians, stumbled into the temple, injured, close to death. He found the infant Frost Giant, and the touch of Odin altered the child into an Asgardian. Odin took the baby with him when he left Jotunheim, hoping to raise the child as his son, Loki.
Growing up on Asgard, Loki and his "brother", Thor, got along fairly well. But Loki never quite fit in with anyone else. Eventually, Odin began putting them through battle training, which Loki absolutely hated. After turning thirteen, they had to endure royal etiquette, which Loki very much preferred. When they turned sixteen, Loki got the option of whether or not he wanted to go to battle training, to which he chose not to go.
Over the Edge
When Thor was selected as the new King of Asgard, Loki had finally lost it. His views were distorted with rage, he saw everything as evil, believing it was his responsibility to save everything, starting with Midgard. But his main goal was to get Thor off of the throne. When word of his disappearance spread, Thor went after him, satisfying Loki's needs, as well as completing his first goal.
