Growing up looking like this, anywhere else I probably would have been killed before I turned five. Lucky enough for me, I grew up in a traveling circus. Yeah, "lucky". I was treated differently, just because I was different. I thought this would be the one place where that didn't happen.

Circus[]
Nightcrawler was the son of the Azazel Traveling Circus's Ringmaster and it's most popular illusionist, Mystique. The baby was born with blue skin and a devil-like tail. Many of the performers were spooked by him, but he was still accepted into the family. Growing up, Kurt was taught in the arts of fencing and gymnastics, both of which he was a prodigy at. When he reached the age of 10, his mother was "killed" under unknown circumstances. His father was busy most of the time, so Kurt was raised by the rest of the Circus, who, by that time, had fully accepted him.
Power Development[]
When Kurt was fifteen, the circus had finally reached it's most anticipated performance: New York City. Kurt's act had evolved into dodging swords, which eventually led into a fencing match between Kurt and the Circus Lion Tamer, who doubled as the villain for Kurt's act. During the New York performance, Kurt was killing the sword dodging portion of his act. However, the thrower made a mistake and it was coming straight for him. No amount of agility could save him, however, before he even realized it, he was far up above the ground, he had appeared there in a puff of smoke, and he began falling. Before he knew it, he had teleported himself back to the ground, unharmed.
Runaway[]
The act was cut short in order to Kurt's father to make sure he was alright, but Kurt freaked out and said he didn't belong in a Circus, he belonged in a mad house. He ran away and before anyone could chase after him, he envisioned a place in his mind and he disappeared again. He didn't know where he was, but he was in a bad place. He didn't know what to do, so he just kept running from rooftop to rooftop. Eventually he saw a group of muggers trying to assault a woman. Before thinking, Kurt jumped down and kicked one of them. He remembered he had his swords with him, so he pulled them out and single-handedly took down the group of muggers, and the woman thanked Kurt, unlike most people, who would run away screaming. After seeing the relief in the woman's eyes, Kurt decided that he was meant to save people, he was meant to be a hero.
