The Golden Age[]
Invaders[]
During World War II, S.H.I.E.L.D. thought it was a good idea to assemble a team of super-humans to fight for the war effort because it would give them an advantage over their enemies. The original roster that Nick Fury put together consisted of Captain America and his side-kick Bucky, Namor the Alantean, and the android known as the Human Torch. Later, Captain Britain would also join the team. Together, they would face Nazis, along with Hydra run by the Red Skull.
Death of Bucky Barnes[]
While in a battle against a fort full of Nazis, the Invaders member Bucky was shot and killed. Namor and the Human Torch were also shot and persumed dead but their deaths were never confirmed. While the battle raged on, Bucky's body was also lost. When Captain America and Captain Britain returned home, they held three empty casket funerals in their memories.
Captain America Missing[]
After overhearing of a Hydra Missile threat, Captain America snuck out of S.H.I.E.L.D. British HQ and went to stop it. He was caught by the Red Skull and his henchmen and was tied to the missile to die along with millions of Americans. While up in the atmosphere, Rogers got free and detonated the missile in mid air so it wouldn't hit the United States. He fell into the freezing water along with the wreckage and floated all the way to Antarctica where he froze and was preserved for many decades before being found by S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Rosalind Solomon.
