GladiatorIn his early adulthood, Drax became a Gladiator. The Gladiators were a group of people who participated in battles, where the aim was to defeat, but not kill, their opponent. They used all sorts of weapons, and took part in planet-wide events where the hundreds of them would be dropped into the atmosphere of a planet without sentient life. This helped Drax grow as a fighter, as he was forced to survive in deserts, jungles, forests, swamps and all sorts of other environments.
He made his way to the Xanth Galactic Finals, where the three hundred best from across the Milky Way came together and hunted eachother down on the planet Xanth, which was known for its' highly predatory plants. After two weeks on the planets' surface, he defeated his final opponent, Gamora, and thereby one the tournament, making him the Galaxy's greatest hunter, and earning him the name Drax the Destroyer. He would later become good friends with Gamora, who respected him for his fighting skill.
A Clone of His Own
Several years after the Xanth Galactic Finals, Drax learnt that his parents had made a female clone of him. After questioning his parents, he learnt that they wanted a child who wasn't beating people half-dead, so they took a DNA Sample from the mandatory pre-Gladiator tests and used it to make a child. However, Drax took custody of 'Heath Dargos', as she was technically his 'daughter'. Heath was happy to meet her real father, and he was happy to meet her too.A group of Cardinals from the Universal Church of Truth came after Drax, wanting revenge on him for defeating their champion in the Galactic Finals. After Drax defeated them, they left. A few months later, they returned. But when they did, Drax wasn't there, having gone to buy food. They took Heath, who had been left at home, and held her for ransom. So when Drax couldn't get the money due to his financial status, they killed Heath. An act that lead Drax to quit the Gladiator business, and try to track down the Cardinals who did it.
