 Daken is an artificial being created by Keniuchio Harada to act as the ultimate enemy against his long-time adversary, Wolverine.

After the Silver Samurai was defeated by Wolverine, he became a disgrace among his people. As an attempt at revenge, he used his scientific skills and, along with a group of others, made an artificial being from isolated sections of the DNA of 87 people. Some of the DNA was altered to give him the abilities of James Howlett, Wolverine, giving him at least equal skills in fighting.


To build up Daken's rage for Wolverine, Keniuchio went through surgery to look like the target. He then wore gloves with metal 'claws' attached and tortured Daken for hours at a time. This lead Daken into a great depression, as any normal torturer would stop when he's about to die, whereas Daken would heal in seconds, giving 'Wolverine' more to torture. However, even his healing factor was tested and after a number of injuries to the same spot, he began to scar. This made Keniuchio and his superiors, Hand, happy, as it meant that even those with a healing factor had a limit, and therefore Wolverine wasn't as immortal as they had previously believed.
