The antihero or antiheroine  is a leading character in a story who lacks traditional heroic qualities  such as idealism, courage, nobility, fortitude, moral goodness, and/or altruism. Whereas the classical hero is larger than life, antiheroes were typically inferior to the reader in intelligence, dynamism or social purpose. However the term in modern times is most often used to describe Byronic heroes, which is described as "a man proud, moody, cynical, with defiance on his brow, and misery in his heart, a scorner of his kind, implacable in revenge, yet capable of deep and strong affection" and are generally the opposite of the original antihero, so overall, the antihero is a hero who doesn't fit into the heroic stereotypes.
