Anton Vanko was a Soviet scientist who was a close friend and partner of Howard Stark on Stark Industries. A engineering genius, Ivan was the co-creator of the Arc Reactor, but after selling Stark weapons illegally, he was deported back to the Soviet Union, where he was imprisoned for years for treason. Afterwards, Vanko had a son, Ivan, who, after his death by cancer, would avenge his death by becoming Whiplash.
